I just bought a 1993 Ford Ranger 4x4 4.0 Liter with manual locking hubs. This is my first 4x4 and was wondering what is the proper way to kick in the 4x4 it has a push button but does not work I have to put the key on the back of the transfer case to put it in 4x4.But I was wondering what is the correct way to put it in 4wd and what is not the correct way. Thanks
Those trucks are notorius for trouble with the solenoid that engages the 4x4. You can buy a new one for cheap and get that push button working again.
"Ideally" the truck should be stopped and in neutral to engage 4x4. I've found that with our 95 I can engage it at speed as long as the clutch is pressed. I've never tried this above 30. If I press the button while in gear the light just keeps blinking until I press the clutch.
I do know that you really have to be stopped to put it in 4lo.
