trying to figure this out.

Why would Diesel Kleen have an effect on my transmission?

I headed out of town for an overnight stay the other day and had to leave my beloved '96 in the parking lot of the mall (took the government vehicle out of town). One of my fellow recruiters asked if I wanted him to take it home instead of leaving it there. Sounded like a good idea, so I had the wife bring him the spare keys. Great news is that even though he was only driving it about 4 miles, he filled both tanks (whatta guy), but he didn't put any diesel kleen into it.

I noticed that I was having slower take offs and that 2nd gear seemed to be holding WAY too long (like it did before I started using the Diesl Kleen). that is when I thought about it. So I added to the rear tank and switched, problem solved. No more slipping and runs just like it had been.

When I switched back to the front tank, forgetting about the diesel kleen....after about 30-40 miles...it went back to the slower take offs and slipping transmission.

What gives???????

oh...96 350 7.3L

Thanks guys.

I'll be honest. It makes absolutely no sense why that would happen. The only thing I can think of, and this is pure conjecture, is that the additive increases the power just enough to make the PCM control the tranny differently. I know, its a long shot, but its all I can come up with.

It makes perfect sense to me. I'm a firm believer in Stanadyne, and have used it in every tank since I discovered the stuff. Every tank except one, that is. It was really crowded at the truck stop, so I decided to keep the line moving by fueling up, and adding the Stanadyne after I got back home. I forgot to do that, however. I continued to drive without the Stanadyne for about 50 miles, when I suddenly noticed that the truck seemed sluggish. I couldn't figure out what might be causing this, until it dawned on me that I hadn't added any Stanadyne to the fuel. I pulled over, added it to both tanks, and started driving again. Within 15-20 miles, the power and smooth operation I'd come to know and love returned.
Now, I don't care how busy it is at the truck stop. The Stanadyne goes in the tank before the ATM card goes into the pump.

i am using howes lubricant right now, and i was thinking of trying stanadyne, should i run a couple of tanks of diesel through the truck before adding the new lubricant or can the two mix. i usually fill the tank up anywhere from a 1/4-1/8th of a tankfull left.

I've had the same kind of response as Quadzilla...I've gotten to the point now where I don't try to rush to hurry up and get out...I'm gonna put in the Diesel Kleen regardless of how many are around....the truck just runs so much smoother with it. You couldn't get me to quit using it now.

mybigredford- I wouldn't expect that there'd be a problem mixing them. I'd suggest that you run the tank down as much as you dare to, before adding a different additive, though, just to be safe.

I use the stanadyne performance formula. I run it in every tank as well. Notice a big differance without it. Injectors are noisier and performance is slugish. Never leave home without it!!
