PSD Leaking Oil

Hey Guys, I posted this in the Excursion forum too, but it was suggested that I post here. My dad has a 2002 Excursion with the 7.3 PSD. Ever since we changed the oil about 3 or so months ago, it has has a continual oil drip. We've had it in to the Ford dealership 6 times, and each time they replace something, but the problem still persists. Has anyone else had this problem? And if so, what did you have to do to fix it. Thanks for the help guys.

Mine leaked for a long time then I had it on the rack at my Mac. and he tighened the drain plug and end of leak!! I just wasn't putting the tourge on it like I should have. I even replaced the copper seal one time!! After that I thought it was the rear seal. It was the drain plug!!

all for christ,

Look at the top of the motor in the valley. If there is oil there it is probably the HPOP o-rings. Look at the back at the pedistal look real good as it can be hard to see to see if the o-rings there are leaking. Could also be the EBPV actuator, this would also show on the pedistal. If the leak is not in these places it is probably from underneath. There try and change the drain plug brass washer. if these do not fix it. it could be a rear main seal or the head gasket. But lets hope not.

Last time my dad had it into the dealership, they replaced the head gasket so I don't think that it's that. I don't think we've checked any of the other areas you mentioned, so that'll give us some things to check. The drain plug was our initial thought, so I got under the truck and tightened it as much as I could...since that the dealership has changed the oil 6 or so times and usually they tighten it down pretty snug, so I don't believe that is our problem, but thanks for the suggestion MobeyDick.

Comes to show that it happens to the best of us. And I stand corrected...they replaced the valve cover gasket, not the head gasket.

Hey Guys, my dad took the Excursion back to the dealership this morning and now they're saying that it was because of the Air Filter. Anyone heard of this causing a oil leak? We replaced it with a high flow K&N not too long ago and last time we checked nothing was clogged, but that wasn't what the dealership told him.

IMO that's about as likely as a reciever hitch causing an oil leak. The preferences for aftermarket air filters are varied, but I've never heard of ANY of them causing problems, oil leaks or otherwise. I would like to see that in writing complete with the theory of how it did it.

I just discovered an oil leak on my 02. It has 51K miles on it. There seems to be standing oil in the valley of the motor. Are any of these things that are mentioned (the Oil pump o-rings, actuator arm, etc..) as possible culprits covered under the engine warranty!! Just wondering before I take it in so I know what to expect. Also I think I might put the stock intake back in before I take it in just to avoid any problems like the one mentioned above. You never know what the dealers will come up with!!Thanks
