The (ABS) light is comeing on when i hit my breaks on my 94 ranger. I still have plenty of peddle and stopping power but the light is coming on is this and indication that the brakes are just worn or is it something worse. Apreciate anyones input on my problem.
Could be a lot of things. When my light came on, the brakes worked normal, but the fluid level was low. I checked the master cylinder, front calipers and rear wheel cylinders for leaks. I finally found a line rusted beside the fuel tank that would leak when hard pedal was applied. The light could also be caused by a momentary fault in the RABS system if it goes out and does not come back. In basic terms, the light means check your brake system to find the problem.
Would the brakes needing to be replaced cause it im not sure exactly how many miles they have on them but i konw that this set has been on for a while.
I would check for low fluid, stuck master cylinder float, bad connections at the RABS valve and the speed sensor, parking brake problems and for misadjucted rear brakes, worn out rears may also cause some problems.
