Maintnence Charger

I went to the auto parts store and bought a little maintnence charger for my old truck. On the back of the package it says vehicles equiped with an alternator disconnect one batt. cable.

Do i have to disconnect one cable ?
I mounted this charger under the hood. I don'e want to have to disconnect the batt. every time i plug it up.
Do I?

Is it one of those big ones that you can jumper with or one of those little 6 amp/2 amp units?

I plug mine in all the time with the 6 amp unit and have never had a problem. I have 4 vehicles so some sit for long periods between use and I keep them topped off with that thing all the time.

I think the concern is that you can fry the computer if you get a spike or too much ripple. Most of the small ones dont' do too much but I don't know about those big wheel around ones that you can actually jump start something with.
Of course don't sue me if it does do something.
