Hope somebody can help me. I am tired fo it. I have a '89 f-250 460 c-6 truck that I love except for two things. First is power steering have put a new pump and box on. Still sounds like i have a supercharger on it. This thing whines a lot after about two days of putting it all together. Also it blows off the cap. Ive bought two new ones and after a couple weeks it blows off. I think its a bad pump or a cracked housing but I cant find any cracks. It seems like all the fords have this problem though. All my friends that have one say get used to it but it drives me nuts. Second is the fuel economy I get 11 mpg my wife says I should just buy stock in gas and quit complaining or drive the minivan. It doesn't really make a difference if I drive in town or pull my boat on the highway it still gets 11 mpg. By the way I live in Reno and drive to Tahoe from 5000 to 8900 feet so take that into account. Thanks in advance.
sounds like you have a restriction some where causing high pressure. did you check to see no lines are pinched or smashed ? if so try having some one do a pressure test. just for starters make sure fluid is up to par and don't overfill. if you just changed pump, did you bleed lines first before driving ? good luck. if there is no leaks, there shouldn't be cracks, fluid can't go nowhere but on the ground.
I put on new lines when I replaced gearbox. Yes I did bleed system by turning lock to lock about 6 times brought fluid level up to normal than drove. Don't have any problem at all driving just a loud whine. However I bought a Walmart brand power steering fluid and it is the only one i've ever seen that looked like regular oil.
Don't get me wrong this thing hauls anything i've hooked up with "what is that following me boy I better leave cause its getting closer and man does it go"

This is EXACTLY what it sounds like is the problem. Start looking for obstructions.
As for your gas mileage, that is normal. The 460 has a voracious appetite. My 89 F250 with 460 gets around 10 mpg in town, and about 13 on the highway. When I'm towing my fifth wheel (overdrive off), it dips down to around 7 mpg. You could buy an economical beater, and in a years time it would pay for itself in gas savings. I drive Rambo once a week just to keep things working, and other than that, only when towing.
