running rough.
new plugs and wires and thermostat about 6 months ago.
every thing looks ok under the hood.
Sometimes it would idle rough and slight hesistation when you nail it. it feels weak and kinda "feels" rough (like spark knock) upto about 20mph then it smooths out and has more power. when it runs rough the timing is jumping around alot, about 10˚ total. there is no SES light at anytime it runs, i know it works cause i unpluged the MAF and it came on.
the timing moves around when it idles smooth too but very slowly. is this normal? does it have a knock sensor?
i turned the timing up a little (hard to tell how much) and it runs better has more power but its still not right. i want to fix the problem, not cover it up.
While your at the parts store, grab a Haynes or Chilton manual and see if they can pull your computer codes. Autozone pulls them for free but there seem to be some stores that only have the newer code reader that can't pull from pre-96 vehicles. (Luckily my store still has the older one too.) The manual will come in real handy and even show you were the connector is that you have to pull to check the base timing :-)
If they try to charge you or can't, go to www.fordfuelinjection.com and look for the pulling codes section. Its not hard to do yourself and no equipment is needed beyond a paperclip...
Post your results please,
