Unknown knock/slip yoke

A couple of months ago I bought and 1995 ford f150 with an I6. I really like the I6 and I had one in my old truck. I noticed that there was a slight tap under when the motor was lagging and when gunning. I thought it was just an exhaust leak. Well it seems to be getting worse. I checked all the header bolts and everything was nice and tight. My Dad thinks its a valve tapping. Its really killing gas mileage and my HP so I'd like to get it taken care of. What I want to know is if this is really the problem, how easy it is to fix, and how much it would cost to get fixed.

My other problem is...when ever I let the clutch out I have to let it out extra carefully cause if I don't it will bang. This bang annoys the **** out of me and cannot be good for the truck. I think the problem lies within the slip yoke. U joints are all good and tight. If it is the slipp yoke does anyone know how much one costs?

Hi, a valve noise will get louder when the RPMs increase and is usually a heavy tap. You may have an exhaust leak from the air injection pipe. It is a long pipe running along the passengers side of the head just above the exhaust ports, this pipe has 6 smaller tubes running from it to fittings in the exhaust ports, its purpose is to inject air into the exhaust. These pipes break loose or rot away and you get a tapping /exhaust leak noise under acceleration. The noise is not present when the engine is idling or cruising, unless it( the pipe) is in really bad shape.The slip yoke is probably not your problem. You might have broken springs in your clutch DISK, there are several around the center hub to take up the shock of the clutch engaging. The center drive shaft mount may be bad, my 1990 has a two part drive shaft with a support bearing in the center. The other thing is a problem with the differential itself. With the rear wheels on the ground and the hand brake on, grab the drive shaft or put a screw driver in one of the U joints and twist it back and forth . You shouldn't be able to go far because the wheels are on the ground and the brake is on.
