A "Limited slip" is clutch type traction aiding differential that "encourages" both wheels to continue turning at the same speed when traction on one is lost. These differentials require a "friction modifier" added to the gear oil to enable the wheels to turn at different speeds when cornering to eliminate clutch chatter.
Ford calls them "Trac Loc"-"Traction Loc"."Power Loc"
Chevys are called "Positraction" or "Posi" for short
Mopar called them "Sure Grip"
A "Locker" is a mechanical lock-up differential with out spider gears or clutches. When cornering the vehicle is driven only by the inside wheel. When enough power is applied, the driving wheel will break traction and rapidly gain speed until it's speed matches the undriven axles speed. At that time it will mechanically "Lock" to the other axle. Both axles will turn at the exact same speed until power is removed.
"Lockers" do not require a friction modifier additive because they have no clutches.
To unknowingly drive a vehicle with a locker, you will swear there is something wrong with the rearend!
To my knowelege, Ford only put these in some muscle cars of the 60's, marketed as a "Detroit Locker" and some HD trucks of the 80's, marketed as a "No Spin"
