On my 96 Explorer 4.0 SOHC 178,000 miles. Trans quit. I had the trans replaced by Ford in 2001. Paid Dearly! Then I got a trans leak in 2002, paid Ford to fix (it was past my 90 day warranty). Front seal. Again it began leaking in 2003. Paid small shop near home this time to save money. Seal again. Now its leaking again here in Nov 2004. I am currently debating on who to have fix it.
Have any of you guys had 3 leaks in 3 years? I wonder if something was damaged during th trans change? Before the trans swap I had the truck from 96 until 2001 with no leaks ever???? What you guys think??????
How did they fix it? Was the seal really replaced? I had one shop that just put conditioner in. Needless to say, I sued and they had to refund the $$ and I then had the seal replaced by a competent mechanic.
Dont know about Ford, I mean I did not see , but there was a new trans put in, so I assume new seals. 2nd guy I actually was in the shop 2 days before it was ready and saw the trans dropped down on a trans jack. So by taking it out they must have put them on. Yes I did see actual work on it. Plus I tried conditioner myself after the 1st time trying to save money.
