Cool power steering conversion question

I have a 1976 F-150 4x4 360 that I would like to convert to power steering, as it is become very difficult to steer. I got a power steering pump and steering box out of a 77 150 from the yard and it doesn't fit. My question being: what do I need look for ie.. year model ect.. To match up boxes? Am I even asking the right Question, and any suggestions please. I thank you in advance for your help.

76-77 f100,f150 4x4 use same parts,maybe the truck you got parts off wasn't a 77. What doesn't fit,box dimensions,bolt holes,..?

Question

Hi guys
The type of steering that I have I believe is called assisted (it has a shock running horizontal to the ground) I was told that the new box out of the 77 was too short meaning there are two different size boxes??? I'm sure it would help if I knerw exactly what I was talking about but thi is the best I can Do. Does a hollander number 1088 help? It's a cross reference number I got from that parts guy at the junk yard.???

If you have power assist now, then the box is actually a manual.I don't think F-150's had this set-up after 75.But I could be wrong and am sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. Are you sure that's not just a steering damper?

Power steering Conversion

nlee1188,send me your e-mail address using the information when you click on my username and I will send you a download of the article I wrote on how to convert your truck to the newer integral box power steering. This gets rid of the ram and manual steering box and replaces it with a 78-79 F-150 power steering box with a fair amount of work it can be done in a few days.Good Luck.

PS-have you checked your inbox lately? I thought I already sent that article to you but I could be wrong.

Keep in mind that a 4x2 steering box is reversed from a 4x4 steering box, at least in the 78-79 years. The Pitman arm comes out on the front on a 4x4 and in the rear on a 4x2. Kind of narrows down the choices..

Someone please correct me if I am wrong. If I am wrong, I'll be happy since it will make it easier to find a new box for my 4x4..
