There's a company that winds their own alternators. I bought from them through ebay, cost me a couple hundred but it's a nice setup, 1 wire too so that simplifies things.

I have heard 1 wire alternators are not the best for low rpm outputs. They will turn them selves off and on alot.

Duh Jopey . . . that's why you keep the pedal to the floor. Actually Pro and I were discussing this a while back. Apparently they do not put out their full amp rating at lower RPMS. All I can say is I've been really happy with mine and it kicks out some serious juice. One of these days I'll put a good load on the electrical system and throw my amp meter on there to see what the news is at different RPMs.

Majority of alternaters (stock and aftermarket) don't put out their full rating till the motor is reving at highway speed rpm's cause that is where the motor spends most of it's time, and at low rpm and idle the output is usually just above half of its overall rating.

my stock 3g puts out 80-85 amps @ 900 rpms and it was spitting out like 135 @ 1400-1500 rpms.

Yeah, most fors alt's put out a pretty good current (80' and newer anyway) and that why you don't see many 100amp aftermarket alt's for fords.
