I have a ford 9 " with the following codes listed on the tag.
woh-t
3L50 8a8 311.
It is hard to tell if this is correct due to corrosion but as best I can tell it is. I need some help is this a 8-9 inch ford . I would appreciate the assistance and what is the proper width for the 54 f-100
If all of the third member nuts can be removed with a socket and extension it is an 8". If u have to use a boxed end wrench on the lower third member nuts it is a 9".
WDM-T is correct it appears.
It was used in 63-78 F-100's and is listed as a 3.50 limited slip 9" with 28 spline axles. I have a few out back with that same code.
I believe that it is also the correct width for your 54.
Tim, that 8a8 is just a date code. Some tags will have 8 or 9 embossed to the far right of the axle code but it is not a given. Ive seen others marked right after the ratio such as 3.50 8 which is what the 8" under my old 26T coupe had.
Thanks for the info Carl. I stand corrected - 'bout the time I think I've got something figured out, Ford throws me a curve. On all the 9's I happen to have around here the size is marked right after the ratio.
