Hope that the DVD is helpful. Is it the factory manual from Helm, Inc.?

If so, would you let me know if it includes the information on the 6.0 L PSD? I ordered one from them back in '03 and the manual on disk that I received at that time only had info for the 7.3 L. Had a heck of a time getting them to let me return it.

Of course if you are John Kerry, you get a 200' chin range.

Interference

Although it may not fix the particular problem hoarsnest is having, there is a good article on RF interference to keyless entry on WashingtonPost.com.

Google for keyless entry and washingtonpost.com together.

From: Nevada,
Hey Everyone, according to this article, the antenna for the remote entry is THE ANTENNA!!!
The unit jesus_man is describing sounds aftermarket, the article i have basically says if you havent changed your antenna mast, and your radio reception is ok the most likely cause will be the receiver. GOOD LUCK, R.

Can you imagine the distance Jay Leno could get on the chin trick!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW, it says the security module is behind the radio/heater controlls and the current info has to be uploaded to the new module via scan-tool. sorry

And when replacing batteries, makes sure the one you just bought has not been on the shelf for a year already.
Happens more often than you would think.

OK, my '02 F-150 would work all the time flawlessly from about 150 feet. Now, my '04 F-250 works most of the time but only from 25 feet or less and sometime not even then. There have been a few times when it would not work at all and I had to use the keypad on the door. (I know OMG, not that!!!!) But, it is annoying to walk away and hit the button a few steps out and have to turn around, go back and lock it, geeeez I sound lazy even to myself, oh well, I am. I have asked the dealer about it and they said that it works great for them (of course!!) and there is nothing to fix. Is there a connection I can check easily? How does it connect to the radio antenna? Does the cable split or is there another wire going to the radio or antenna? Same performance with both remotes and even got a new one from the dealer when I complained and no change. Thanks for any info., Mat

From: Nevada,
Well Mat, i dont have a electrical diagram that shows a direct link, however it may be through a can communication. There is a wire that shows audio corporate protocol (a) & (b). The manufacture that i work for uses no external antenna but places the receiver in or very near the roof panel for better reception.

BTW, the manufacture i work for states: proper operating parameter is within 1 meter.
The information i have IS NOT DIRECT FROM FORD but has been relaible for our used car technicians. Good Luck, R.

the fix!

I just fix this on my wifes Explorer it was the aftermarket Bluetooth adapter I was using it must have been flooding the antenna with a strong signal all the time because it's plugged into the power port remote with a brand new battery would only work about 5 to 10 feet from the car with that Bluetooth adapter plugged in. Unplugged it works normally from inside the house 100+ft away.

Ive had 5 trucks both fords and chevys in the last 10 years or so. Factory range is poor, but 10ft that's crazy. I did have remote start put into a f150 and the range was suppose to be 1000ft , which I think I could get get 500ft or more most times.

I don't understand with the aftermarket systems being able to do what they do, why is it factory keyless entry and remote start is only 100ft or so at best. Seems to me its something that hasn't improved at all since it came out.
