4X4 Shift Motor
My 1999 F350 (V10) in currently in the shop due to my four wheel drive not activating when I flip the switch in the cab. I had this same problem last year and they said they replaced the 4x4 shift motor.
So now my truck is in the shop again for the same reason and they are telling me that the shift motor is bad and since it has been over 12 months since the last one was replaced there is nothing they can do. Both shops are Ford dealers but different locations.
I think it is a load of crap that they will not replace this unit. I probably have used the four wheel drive 3-4 times in the last year, and only due to snow, no heavy off roading.
Anyone have any ideas where I can buy this part to replace myself or a part number, it does not seem very difficult to replace?
Thanks for your help and the great forum.
Dirk
Yes, 99f350sd is right. All that's wrong with your ESOF is lack of use. I went through the same thing you're going through a few years ago. I'd take it back - get a new servo motor - take it back - get a motor. Never-ending battle. The last time this happened I asked to see the old motor. It looked brand new, so I asked if I could have it. After grumbling and snarling, they let me have it and I took it home, hooked it up and it worked fine. Nothing at all wrong with it. I still have it as a matter of fact.
But, since then I realized that if you engage the ESOF every now and then that it will slide into gear easy as you please every time. It just needs a little attention now and then.
When you get it out of the shop, just make sure you engage the sytem occasionally. You don't have to engage it for long, just go through the motions 4Hi, then 4Lo, back and forth awhile. It works.
BTW - see if they'll give you that "old worn out servo motor"...

Put it up in a dry, clean area and you'll have a good motor if that one ever goes south.
