OK... Which programmer is best???

I have read about the different processers that our out there for our 7.3L PSD's. I am looking for opinions as to which is "the best"!
From what I can tell there are three "top level" programmers to choose from, and they would be:
Diablo Sport Predator
SuperChips 1705
Edge Evolution

I am sure that there are pros and cons with each one of these... just give me your "fully bias" opinions... so I can decide which one I want to go with!

Thanks alot in advance!

BTW... it would be for a 2001 Excursion Limited 4x4 that tows occasionally... but tow weight would be a bass boat on a trailer... I would guess it is less than 3500lbs.

For the price and user friendliness, I'd go with the Superchips 1705. I know guys running em, and everyone seems happy. I like the Predator, but I really don't need the extra options. Don't know much about Edge. Good luck and happy hunting.

Smile Super Chips

I was dragging my feet for along time and after reading all about chips and programs on this forum, I decided to go with the Super Chip. I have two 7.3's so I can move the program from one truck to the other. Takes about 6 to 7 minutes to do it. I have mine on the low setting as I do some towing and have no gauges so am not too concerned about melting something at that horsepower. Really brings a truck to "life". Have a good friend that sells these and he told me to try it for a month and if I didn't like it, he would take it back......NO WAY, it's here to stay !

I have the predator with gauges. Towing a 7500lb travel trailer on the 40hp (low or tow) setting, I can get the EGTs into the red pretty easily. On the 60hp setting, at more than about 1/2 throttle on a hill, it will touch the red.

I have the predator. Towing mileage increased from right at 10 to the mid 11's. The best I had ever done non towing before was 17.3, after the tuner I have seen 20 on one tank and 19ish on several tanks. I'm hoping a new exhaust will increase that a tad.

This is my first post and i also just got the Superchips tuner. Its been tuned to high pro for about 4 hrs now havent had time to test it out as much as i want to but the spin i took around the building was really different. Noticed alot of first gear power and i think it will take me a while to get use to it. I will post up a mileage change next week some time. right now im getting 16.5-17. I would with out a hesitation say get this for your truck.

All three of the programmers you are looking at are great. IMO I like the Predator a little more over the others because of its versatility and easy to read back lite screen. I also like to have the code reader in it. So chaulk up another one for the Predator.

And yes I have seen about 3-5 MPG increase for every day driving with the predator in the 60 hp setting.

Fire Rooster... I am leaning toward the Predator. But my main concern is with the Exhaust Temp! Do you use a pyrometer? If so, what kind of readings do you get using the Predator? Have you used the high setting? I hear that it is awesome! Also... do you have an aftermarket intake and/or exhaust? I am putting an AFE Stage 1 intake this weekend... and will upgrade to a full 4" turbo back exhaust system. (soon I hope!) But I need to get gauges first! (hopefully this weekend as well!)

I'm running an Edge Evolution. I believe they are all about the same as far as performance goes. The Predator was not an option for me (pre 99 truck) and Edge Products being based in Ogden, UT (15 minute drive) pushed them over the top. I like to know that I can go straight to the source for any concerns and/or problems that may arise. Plus the evolution just came out with an upgrade to monitor things like engine oil temp, engine oil pressure, tranny temp, exhaust back pressure.

Any choice will be a good choice.

Is the Bully Dog stuff any good? I see they claim the lowest EGT compared to all other tuners/chips. Their Power Pup has 3 programs 50hp, 75hp and 120hp, and their 4-bank performance chip looks cool with the flip switch allowing you to change progams while driving.

As far as mileage, getting around 16, about the same as before BUT with the 70 extra horse it just seems to get down the road much easier...in other words more horsepower for the same amout of fuel used. Works for me!
