Hello! First Ford Truck

Hello all. Great forum!

I just purchased a 1989 F250 with the 351 to plow my yard and do general truck things on the weekends. The truck has a 5 speed manual which I think is a good thing.

It has a couple of little issues, leaks coolant on the passenger side behind the engine (intake manifold leak???) and the transmission whines a little in 5th gear (I am going to check the fluid level- apparently I add ATF to this tranny), but the body is solid and it rides nice.

Any idea what might cause the above problems? Anything else to look out for with this truck?

Thanks in advance!!

Congrats and welcome!!! The leak is likely to be from a hose to the heater core, just have to take a closer look. Main thing is to keep the front end aligned on a regular basis so your tires will last a long time, esp. with a plow up front. Good luck!

Welcome!

how bad is the leak? maybe a freeze plug. I had a small leak I noticed one day before work and sure enough on the way home the freeze plug blew out. made it home ok, but it certainly wasn't a pleasant experience. just something else to check over.

keep an eye on your front shocks too. they take quite a beating during plow season.
