Can any one explain to me what an offset of +2 will do on an eagle 178 rim going on a lariat super cab. I want my tires to stick out a little bit more but not a lot and I want to run the stock tires.
It will stick out past the stock wheel by 61mm about 2 1/4"...
My numbers are wrong, they didn't take into concideration the different width rims.
I thought I understood this but now your making me question that. How did you get that number? The offset on a stock 7.5" wheel is 40mm or 5.8" backspacing. The wheel he is looking at only comes in a 9" width with a +2mm offset which is roughly 5.1" of backspace. That would make the new tire/wheel setup stick out .7". I used this site to get these numbers. http://www.bigwheels.net/info_specs....rw1=8.0&et1=10
Hovy: I was questioning your figures, since I have the A.E. 178. Mine stick out about an 1inch from stock, but I have a 6 inch lift and wanted to be able to go with a full wheel lock when making a U turn. Which in fact my U turn radius is better than stock. Since it is 9 inch rim you can go with 35/37 inch tires safely. Yeah I seen people place a 35 inch tire on 7 1/2 inch rim (not recommended from the tire manufactures).
The tires do not look bad when the stick out, if you have problems there are cosmetics that can elevate the issue:
1. Bushwacker fenders (they look good, two types)
2. I have tube side steps that run along the cab that makes the tires look part of the truck. No pics yet on that mod.
In Wisconsin, your tires may not extend out past the fender walls at all. You are required by law to add fender flares if you have larger than stock tires that stick out. This may be the case in other states, check your laws.

Mkoser: Interesting law.....Why would your state make such a law? or think of something like that....Is that why California has such a flux of people migrating to this state.....
How many cops care about the laws that THEY break... Not many...
Cops never speed, always use their directional, never roll through a stop, never have too many beers and drive....
But they DO care when you do it

No person shall operate any motor vehicle having three or more wheels, any trailer, or semitrailer unless equipped with fenders, covers, or devices, including flaps or splash aprons, or unless the body of the vehicle or attachments thereto afford adequate protection to effectively minimize the spray or splash of water or mud to the rear of the vehicle and all such equipment or such body or attachments thereto shall be at least as wide as the tire tread. This section does not apply to those vehicles exempt from registration, trailers and semitrailers having an unladen weight of under 1,500 pounds, or any vehicles manufactured and first registered prior to January 1, 1971, having an unladen weight of under 1,500 pounds.
Amended Ch. 215, Stats. 1970. Effective November 23, 1970.
That must fall under the same law as the posted speed limit on the highways... Maybe I can cause spray or splash when it rains the couple times of the year...
Ryan: Sorry for going of topic. What brand of tire? Go to the tire website and it should give you the specs on the rim width for the tire. This tire I expect can fit on a 9 inch rim.
