Front end noise.

hey guys, been a while. I seem to be experiancing a loud, fatigued, whoomp sound coming from my front end. It happens when I go over deep divets and bumps on and off road. It almost sounds like the leaf springs are doing all the noise but my guess is ball joints or u-joints. It only has 30,000 on it, but maybe the larger tires wore them out? Thanks for any ideas.

Large tires wear out the bearings. Jack the front up and grab the top and bottom of the tire and see if there's any slop in the bearings.

Make sure to check the torque on your U bolts and trac bar bracket if you have a lift or leveling kit. If they get loose you might have a front end clunk. Mine did it a little while after I installed my leveling kit. I retorqued and was fine. However, it is starting to do it again, so I should probably recheck them.

Ford sells a spring insulator kit for that problem. Nylon pieces that go between the leafs. Need a big prybar to install. Kit with pieces for both springs is about $25. Your dealer parts guy should know what you need right away. I guess they wear fairly quickly, if your truck is a few years old, the old ones are gone if they were ever there....
