My truck is approaching the 100k mark. After I had the ball joints replaced I started thinking about the shocks and that they don't ride to well these days. I drive almost all on the Freeway at 70 MPH for hours at a time. The only off road the truck see's is at the jobsite. I want a comfortable ride as I occasionally have potential customers with me and don't think they would appreciate the harsh ride of some high performance off road shocks. Are the stock replacements from Napa any good? around $35 each around here. Thanks all,
What about Pro comp? I found a site that had all 4 with boots plus free shipping AND a steering stabilizer AND free shipping all for $100 Can you believe that?
bilstiens are the way to go. its a pressurized gas shock so theres no oil cavitation. twin tube designs like the pro comps will cavitate the oil and the shocks effectiveness will fade as there working. bilstiens are the last shock you would ever put on your truck.
I think I will go with the steins. My old Chevy Z71 had them on it and they were awesome. I didn't know with the weight of the diesel if the ride was affected, but I guess that would depend on the springs more than the shocks. Thanks,
I just did the Rancho RSX deal on my 02 F350 PS. I had no idea how bad the Factory Shocks were, The new Ranchos made an Unbelievable difference in the ride. Guess I had gotten used to the rough ride of the factory Shocks, Wonder if all 4 of them leaking like a mo fo made any difference in the ride.......
$40,000 Trucks and .50c shocks,Not sure what Ford Was thinking on that deal.........
I am running RS 9000 all the way around on my 99 DRW and love them because when I tow I can just turn up the settings and when I want comfort I turn them down.
I've been running the Rancho RS9000X. I agree, the adjustable dial allows for a "car-like" hiway ride. Just dial them up for a stiffer ride for towing. If you can wait, Rancho usually runs a special in Mar-Apr every year. buy 3-get 1 free. I got the entire set-up for under $180 from Sam's Offroad Equipment in Oklahoma, on-line. I know a lot of people love the Bilstein's. A friend of mine said if you want shocks for your race car, go with the Bilsteins. All of Ranchos R&D is for heavy duty/off-road truck use. Just my 0.02.
Well I was told by the shop that did the ball joints that the stock ones are really crappy and do not have greaseable fittings. There is a lot of weight on the front of these trucks so he said that he does about 1 truck a week. I had both upper and lower joints replaced and now have greaseable fittings. As far as the shocks are concerned I just noticed that i was bouncing around a lot more than I was absorbing anything. You could go by the dealer and test drive a new one for kicks and see how that feels!!!
