engine light comes on
I have a 1998 2wd ford ranger 4cyl. My engine light comes on and i checked the codes and p1401 came up saying DPFE EGRCIRCUIT HIGH INPUT. does anybody know what that means, or the part(s) i will need to fix it.

The pinpoint tests for this code require a OBD-II scanner, if you have one I can send them, email me. This is a common code and the common problem is the DPFE sensor, they tend to corrode inside. I believe it is on the passengers side of a 2.5L but I'm not 100% sure. It's a small box with two vacuum lines and a 3 wire electrical connector, check the connections before replacing it. If you do replace it disconnect the negative battery cable for 15 minutes to reset the computer.
