1st time posting here. I am now the proud owner of 2 Fords. A 78' F-150 4x4 with a 400 and now a 74' F-250 Highboy. The body on my highboy needs quite a bit of work and I think it would be easier to find a donor body. Can put a non-highboy box and cab on this truck? Will I have to do modifications to it or is the mounting positions the same? Any replies are appreciated, hope to get some photos in here of both. Thanks
rear cab mounts and bed holes are different, but easiely fixed with a drill. the floor around the shifter needs to have the removable cover but since you already have it on the exsisting cab thats no prob. also... if its a 2wd you might loose your gas tank if you dont have a extra one on the truck already. if your lucky enough to run into a good one ton 2wd some of those beds had the same narrow bolt pattern. on the rear cab moutn deal... just drill the transfer case cross member for the new cab. the highboy cab and 1ton cab have little brackets outside the frame and use a wider pattern in the cab, but you dont have to use them on the 2wd cab if you put holes in the xmember like the 2wd trucks have. then you can use either cab later on too.
The gas tank is in the cab on mine, and it is 4wd. So if the donor body is a 1 ton or another high boy I am ok with the cab mounts, but if it is a non-highboy or a 2wd I need to do some drilling? So the high-boy has wider cab mounts on the rear than a non-highboy? I just want to be sure here about what is being said. I don't know if I was clear or not, but the F-150 is finished and is not a parts truck and is not being used in this project.
about the 1tons some are one way some are the other you have to look.
your f250 4x4 has a wider REAR cab mounting than most all 2wd's of the same year.
the front cab mount is the same for all 67-79.
most 2wd's do NOT have a seat (inside) fuel tank. but you can (if you want to) put the brackets and add the seat tank to a non seat tank truck. ive done this as well although most frown on it. Ill take extra gas any way I can over tunes anyday. all you have to do is cut fill hole fuel line hole and make a wood spacer for the top flange of the tank to bolt through since the 2wd cab doesnt have the tank bracket spot tacked on the back of the cab.
please understand I am just trying to clarify... and not mad...
sometimes its hard to tell lol the caps were just for enfasis.
PS: I hope I am not drowning you with too much info... I dont want to run you off.
