In mid-summer of 89, I ordered a F-250 XLT Lariat.Fully loaded "except power locks/windows",and that's what I got.I ordered 89, but truck came in as 90 model year(no difference). Had full gauges.a/c, cruise, etc. just no power, the way I wanted (no switch's/motor's to worry about),Am sure Ford didn't do this just for me.
My 1988 F150 XLT 4 x 2, 302, AOD, 3.55LS, trailer package, came with cruise, air, power windows/doors, tach, clock radio with casette, captains chairs, centre console with coffee holders, some wood on the dash, headliner and carpet, but no steering wheel tilt.
Frank.
Frank, you have a tilt wheel, you just don't know it. If you have cruise, you have a tilt wheel, you couldn't get one without the other. Push the turn signal stalk forward and move the wheel.
You guys are all confusing trim packages with options. Power windows, cruise, AC, tachometer, etc. are all options. XLT Lariat gives you the nice headliner, carpet on the floors, fake wood trim around the controls, nicer wheels, cloth inserts on the door panels, etc.
To answer the poster's original question, yes, you can just swap out your gauge cluster for one with a tach. Everything will plug right in.
Karljay, i have an 88 lariat xcab f250 4x4. bought it with no tach. the good news is a used one will pop right in with no modifications needed. i found one used in the buy&sell. just take the dash apart and pop a used one in. the hardest part is getting the wiper/lights ***** off the dash! oh yeah i forgot to mention that the replacement came with a trip odometer too. major bonus but there was no hole in the clear cover so i had to drill one.
good luck.
