Nasty Carb, Maybe?
What are the chances that the carb needs to be rebuilt? Fuel filter? Fuel pump?
With the motor not running, remove the air cleaner. Hold the choke open with your fingers, and manually open the throttle. Do you see gas squirting ? A bad accelerator pump in the carb can make it a real joy to start.
