Hey guys I had a qestion I had never messed with Auto's before I allways had 5 speeds....I am building a 408 W right now I have the World Class T-5 5 speed from Jegs it will not hold up to this motor so I have bought a JW bell housing for a TH400 tranny to a SBF...now I am confused what you have to do to make a TH 400 fit in my 408? Input shaft? I have seen people do it alot.....but I know little about Auto trannys..also would i have to change the output shat as well? and yoke? Thanks Airman Fallon
I don't think even the mighty tremec could handle that... you can build them to take a 1000 HP, but its not really worth it, since only extreme racing clutches could handle it.
Yeah I agree I had a Tremec world class T-5 it was really expensive and allmost coulden't handle my weak 331 stroker(406 HP) I had in it before...It started to grind gears in first and stuff....but I called JW I guess you do not need to change anything but you need a crank sapcer and a JW flywheel and a GM tourqe converter...and hack saw off teh bell houseing...so this should be a intersting adventure thanks for the help guys.....I just hope I can find a TH 400 that can hold this motor it should be about 700 on NOS..If you know anyone who can a build good TH 400 for cheap let me know I am just a Poor Airman in the USAF lol Thanks again Airman Fallon
Any particular reason you shyed away from a nice stout C6? One way to look at the handling capabilities, you should already be rolling and in a higher gear when the 700hp demands kick in. If you are hitting the trans with 400hp out of the line, you should be in fine shape.
