revised question about startup
lets say for instance you drain the entire engine of oil, hpop empty, resevoir empty etc. You fill the engine back up with oil. My question is will the engine start if oil is not being pumped to the motor, say for instance the pickup tube isn't sealed.

naw, you can pull the drain plug and the oil filter and fire the ol gal up. she will sit there and idle till she starts klunking and throws a rod or 2. you might even get it to throw 3 before she dies, deending on which ones are thrown first.
