I just picked up a second truck, 2000 F150 supercab 97k, 5 on the floor, With the V6. I know all the horror stories about the V6. But this was a sweet deal (I bought it off a chevy dealers lot) and everything about the truck is tight and seems to have been well taken care of. I am sure the motor is not stock. It runs too good and tight and there are tell tale signs that it was more than likely replace not long ago. Like I said I just bought it last night nov 8th as a matter of fact. How do I tell what brand of motor that has replaced the orig? Or maybe a rebuild?? I got some advice from the ford dealer parts guy, to look for a tag or label or #'s. ???? But they were so busy I didn't want to hold everyone up by being the 100 question customer that ticks off customers that are in a hurry, and of course.... I wanted to be driving the new toy since I had the time.
I guess this says something for the members and this forum, since I am already asking for advice from where I think I will get the most answers and probably the best answers.
The v6 is ok. I have one in a work truck that is WAY overloaded and 4wd, and it does ok. I can't use 5th much but it has 120k and no problems at all other than a clutch at 100k.
I would be surprised that it would be changed at that low of miles. Now there are some mods to do that can help them and maybe that is what you have, a "tweaked" motor. Check the 4.2 forum in the engine section.
That could be. I did a good inspection during my initial fluids change and greasing and I did find the very faded sticker on the drivers side valve cover. It did have the Ford numbers. The motor mounts have been stripped of paint and from under the truck there is some writing on them with permenant marker. This is what is making me think the motor has been out.? I will check the 4.2 forum and do some reading there, thanks.
