I have a 1985 ford f-150 XL The 300 inline that is in it only has about 30,000 miles on it from the crate. i have a standard transmission with new clutch ect. If anyone has some suggestions for better/higher performance with a limited budget, I would greatly appreciate it. Something i might add is it has no power steering.........yet. So i need a combination that will still be easy to drive.
I have already thought about putting a Comp High Energy 268 cam, Offy intake, Holley 390, and Hedman Steet Header.
I cant afford to do all of it at the same time, so if I did it in steps what would be the best combinations to possibly start out with?
thanks to anyone who contributes to my question. jeremy

Something I can contribute in your quest for more performance is this... adding power steering to your truck is going to decrease your performance, at least in a minor way since it'll be taking *some* power away from your truck to operate the steering pump. Probably not significant enough to worry about really, but why don't you remove the front and rear windshields so as to reduce your drag coefficient? That'd result in immediate and real benefits, particularly at high speed. Might want to invest in some goggles though.
... well neway... MY SUGGESTION. Headers, intake Cam. reason i say this is... Exhuast is the last part of the system. Make sure that any extra fuel air that you add can get out, then the intake, to make sure it can get in, and then the cam, to let it in. I dont know if the stock intake can feed the cam, if it can, id do that, but im sticking with headers first for sure.
My suggestion is to check out the thread at the top of the forum specifically dedicated to this topic. It is there so this question isn't asked every day.
