Orbital Buffer?

I had to learn the hard way and buy a black clear coat 2004 Lariat SuperCrew.
Beautiful truck and it looks great for about 20 minutes after washing but I've developed those common, spider web swirls and fine scratches in the paint.
Is it best to use an orbital buffer or your hand when waxing and buffing these out?
I'll probably try Meguair's Swirl remover.

Thanks.

Well its faster and a little better to use a high speed buffer but it takes a little know how to use it. On the orbital buffer yes you can n/p it just takes longer, you can use a scratch remover, wash and use a polish.

You should find out what caused the swirls on your truck, have a good car mitt is a most and use a five gal bucket to vibrate any contaminates out of the mitt often. On black paint try Meguiar nxt car soap its got good luberation to it.
Even drying the water off your black paint can cause swirls, use a MF towel.
When you get the swirls out protect you black paint with "coats" of ether wax or sealer. Meguiar high tec nxt sealer is great for hiding the swirls but does not last that long.

Go to a Detailer and pick his mind. most Detailers I know will be glad to help.

Meguiar's gives really good help on their site, and if you want to get even more detailing input, I look at propercarcare.com for more ideas. I've had great luck using a Porter-Cable orbital buffer with the Meguiars #2 Swirl Remover, but then I don't have black paint either. However, I had a black Porsche in my checkered past, and orbital seemed to do what I needed. Good Luck! Steve

The "Easiest and best results" come from using the PC 7424. (Period!)
I have had great luck with Meguiars polishes. I use #9 followed up with #82.
BUT i found a system that works even better.
It's the new line from Sonus.
SFX1 A deep heavy duty polishing cream that will remove ALL swirl marks.
Then follow up with SFX2, This will start to bring the shine in black back to a mirror reflection.
Then the SFX3 is the finish polish. Someimes I dont use the SFX3 but it can help with black paint.
PC 7424 Kit With backing plate, 4 Sonus Pads, two micro fiber bonnet, and free bottle of Sonus Paint cleaner
Sonus SFX System

Unhappy

Thanks for the info and reply's.
I'll try hand buffing first since these aren't
deep and seemed to be just light surface scratches
and go from there.
Its nice to know that there are several options and systems to try and remedy my problem.
Black is beautiful, but what a pain to maintain!!!!

As StephenW said, Meguiars.com has an extremely helpful website. http://www.properautocare.com/usporcabpol.html is also very informative.
Yes you can polish your truck by hand however I believe what you will find is that an all afternoon job can be done in 30-minutes with a Porter Cable 7424, the right technique and the correct pads.
Something to think about.
