Aside from working on problems, I'm wondering about preventing some. I do most easy things myself. I.E., Change oil/filter, rotate tires, check and replace coolant/belts/hoses. I sometimes replace brake rotors/pads/drums/shoes. At the moment I'm wondering about lubricating the brake calipers and the steering devices on my 2001 2-wheel drive 4-liter V6.
1. Do I need to dismantle the calipers and spread a special grease on the slides or can I simply squirt some oil on them while they're assembled?
2. I thought all of the steering links are lubed and sealed. Is there actually some lube points that I can maintain?
If I remember correctly, a couple of weeks ago while washing the mud off my 01 EDGE after a mud riding venture I noticed some grease points on the steering knuckles, or at least they looked like grease points. Other than that I haven't seen any more.
