Codes stored?

Hey found a obd scanner i can rent for my 92 150. The problem is my check engine light only comes on for like 1 min or 2. Does the light have to be on to check it, or is the code stored? Thanks

There should be a code stored in the memory, even if the light isn't currently on.

I also have a 92 f150 and lastnight as I pulled away from the curb my check engine light came on. What type of scanner do I need for this truck? Is it OBD I or II?

It is OBD, but you actually don't need a scanner at all. All you need is a jumper wire (paper clip) and the computer will blink out the codes on the check engine light. The instructions can be found here: http://fordfuelinjection.com/index.php?p=13
