Block Heaters - Please Read
The use of a block heater has two considerable benefits:
1) Given that most engine wear takes place upon a cold start-up, your vehicle's engine will last much longer if pre-warmed.
2) Emmission/Pollution is greatly reduced if a block heater is used. An engine running cold after a cold start produces a lot of emmisions. (An engine running at normal temperature produces much lower levels of pollutants, so it is beneficial to get it there ASAP).
My 02 Edge came with a block heater & battery blanket combo and I use it year- round unless it's quite warm out in summer. This, combined with regular oil changes has always served me well. Any vehicle I've ever had that did not have a block heater, had one installed pronto.
