EEC 88 man 2 86 auto- any thoughts?
Will the EEC from the 88 work in my 86? They are different part numbers, but I don't know any more specific issues or problems this might have.
I've got to pull the codes off of my vehicle to see if there are any issues with it bogging down when the gas pedal is pressed (Idles fine, starts fine, just dies when gas is applied). My step-dad had the same issue and swapped out the EECs and his BII ran just fine- So he thought we might try there first with my new BII as well as pulling the codes. I'll be trying to pull the codes this evening...
Thoughts, ideas, problems?
1) '86-'87 have an EGR system and a knock sensor that were taken out for the '88 year. I don't know that it prevents you from making the swap, but you should be aware of it.
2) The '88 computer is going to complain about the missing transmission solenoids. Also, I'm not sure if the PNP switch and the neutral position switch will have the same pin assignment.
I would carefully go over all the pin assignments between the two years and see what's different. In the end, though, if you're swapping out the computer as a diagnostic step ("I wonder if replacing the computer fixes whatever"), I would reserve this until I was reasonably certain the fault could lie in the computer itself. The computer module itself doesn't go bad very often on these engines.
sounds to me like a clogged regulator or faulty
what your old man might have done is just confuse the computer and make it think it's fine. check also injectors
