Problems with gas guage

My guage doesnt jump around or act funny at all, its just that it gets to E before the tank is up. Also when I fill up it does go all the way to F. So I dont think it would be in the wiring since it is working fine, but it could be. To answer your question t_dickie my rear tank is a little bit bigger not very much, but most of the Fords that came with dual tanks one is bigger.

I have had a similar experience with other vehicles. I had a Honda Accord that would get about 220 on the first half of the tank and like 150 on the second. I think the gauges are just not linear. It works off a variable resistor and unless the gauges are calibrated exactly to the volume of gas, it will never be exact. The variations in the tank may cause that too. They are not perfect boxes so the fuel level doesn't give you an exact amount of gallons. My f150 will get about 150 on the first half and then 70 on the second, on both tanks. I think that is just a design flaw. If you notice, the tank is rounded near the bottom, so (just making up numbers here) 2" from the bottom may be 2 gallons and 4" may be 6, where it is rounded will hold less gas. They are not really designed to tell you how much gas you actually have, just when you need to fill up. My gauges stay pegged for the first 30-40 miles on a full tank on the f150 before they start moving.
