what brand and weight oil are u running in ur trucks?
i have only had the truck a few weeks and am having hard time finding an oil that is compatible with the diesel engine. i would like to switch to synthetic, but not at 4-5 dollars a quart... been thinking about buying direct from amsoil and doing the tranny and rear diff at the same time.
I run Shell Rotella Synthetic 5w-40 in the winter ($12/gal. at WalMart), and Rotella 15w-40 the rest of the year. Any oil with the CH-4 rating will do ya just fine. I wouldn't give amsoil any of my money, but that's just me.
Shell Rotella 15/40 over here. Used it for years (6) while driving tractor-trailers, and have been using it for about 5 years in my '85 F250 6.9, and my father (due to my suggestion) used it for about 5 in his 7.3L F250 turbodiesel.
This oil is a very good one, and used on extended runs by the 'big trucks', so I figured that if the companies depended on it for their 80-100 thousand $ rigs, I'd be fine. I have no complaints with it.
Never tried the synthetic -pockets aren't nearly deep enough for that.
