1998 powerstrokes

I have been sort of looking for a different truck and I have found that the 1998 are almost non-existant in the used market. Where did they all go? You always see the 95-97 and the 99-03 7.3s but never any 98s. I am really looking for a CC shortbed 4x4 dually but I cannot seem to find any. Does anybody know of a good place to look? From what I have gathered ford didn't make the shortbed dually until 99. So if I buy an older one I willd have to do some conversion work to get what I want. But where are those 98s. Thanks Jake

I'm pretty sure there is no such thing as a '98 PSD. I guess it has to do with production dates - but you either have a 1997, older bodystyle truck, and then it jumps to 1999 Superduty. So if you are looking for a '98, you are gonna be looking for a long time!!

Cat-man,
Thanks for the reply I was thinking there must be something like that going on. That would explain the large number of 99s that are out there. Thanks for setting me straight. Jake

O it get's better. Ford changed the '99s mid year. So an early 99 PSD and a 99.5 have some differences even though they are both Superduties!!

Hey CAT_man_963,
I have an early '99, manufacture date of 9/98. I know there are differences between the '99s and '99.5s, but I don't know what they are. I tried a search, but to no avail. Could you tell me the differences? Thanks.

Sorry 99turbo, I can't say that I really know all the differences. There is something different with the turbos, and I think the intake. That's all that I know of for sure. I'm sure someone around here is more familiar with the differences!?

I always heard there were differences in the rods between the 99s and the 99.5s. Is there any truth to this? Boy Ford tries there hardest to get their consunmers confused. Jake

Some of the differences are kinda subtle some are not. The turbo housing (allegedly, since I'm not sure.) The airfilter box is better on 99.5 and up, the brake rotors (but they are still crap.), a few body decorations. Powerstroke medalion is on the door on 99.5, I think the medalion is on the fender on the early's.

Anyone else with a comment?
