I just stopped at my exhaust shop today to talk to the guy, to get his prices on things vs. my prices available. He said go ahead and buy my tips I found for 27.00, being as that was a better price then his source even sold ON SALE.
When I mentioned the glasspacks that I wanted to get put on it, Dynomax Thrust Magnum's, he grinned and said that he'd never stop a customer from doing something that they wanted with their exhaust, but that they weren't made to last and that the ones he uses were better. He also pointed out that you got what you paid for in the 20.00/peice price for them too. A few of you have spoken kind words on them, so is the guy pulling my leg? I didn't think about the fact that the gpacks have a steel case which would tend to rust (Iowa...ick).
He didn't mention his brand (didn't ask) but he said that his would last, and they weren't the louvered kind - which would make them the perforated tube style no? Ideas? Opinion on Thrush's?
He said if I supplied tips, then my manifold-back exhaust would be 180 dollars. Cat removal, glasspacks, and 2.25" pipes all the way through.
The only real comment on have on glasspacks is that they will eventually wear out/blow out the fiberglass packing. But hell, for $20 who cares??? We've got one on my parents Dodge ('98 Ram 1500 w/ 5.9L) and it sounds awesome!!! Deep tone out of stock pipe!!! Anyways... I think we had to put a new one on after about two to three years. If I could suggest a muffler or design to go with, I would look towards a stainless baffled muffler (like the Flowmasters design). They sound good, last forever, but price is the downside.
