head gasket
I noticed I had water in my oil and I have been needing to replace the head cover gaskets for a while.
I dont know a lot about working on trucks and thought this might be to difficult of a first timer task so I called around and was given a 300 dollar quote.
Does that seem like a good deal?
How hard IS it to do this job on a 302?

I wonder if you mean that the head gaskets need replacing, not the head cover gaskets (valve covers?). It's not a easy job for a first timer, but if you take your time and have a good set of tools (torque wrench) you'll be fine. Hope your back is good. Get a Haynes shop book, take pictures or at least take notes as it comes apart. Good Luck. ...Terry

Replacing the valve cover gasket is an excellant first timer project. Just don't tighten the bolts down too tight on the covers and put a light amount of gasket sealant on one side of the gasket (cover side). Good Luck.
