Early 390

What is the first year the 390 was available and in what vehicle.

1961 in the 390 hyd lifter and 390HP solid lifter versions. I'd imagine it was available in most mid to full size merc or ford. G.

If it's a 390 HP solid lifter engine it will have HP on the side and rear cast into it. Lifter galleys also undrilled form the outside and a oil pressure relief valve above the cam plug in the rear. Happy hunting, G.
