I know you must be getting tired of all my post but i really need to figure this out..ok i have a 1991 f-150 ext cab with duel tanks.when i bought the truck the back tank never worked but ran fine with the front tank.well the truck sat for about 6 months while i had a tranny replaced and now it wont start. it idles fine if i spray the throttle body with starting fluid and will run for as long as i want it to but as soon as i shut it off it wont restart like it isnt getting gas.i spray it and it fires right back up.i can hear the fuel pump running constant it doesnt shut off as long as the key is on.i checked and it is getting gas thru the filter and i used a pressuer tester(tire guage) at the valve on the fuel rail and it is showing 70psi there i have replaced the fuel pressure regulator also...is there something im missing??? any help will be greatly appreciated. thanx tim
Sounds like at least (2) problems. The fuel pump running constantly could be a bad fuel pump relay. On my '90 the relay is located on the driver side fender well along with the plug used to read codes and the RABS test connection. I had this problem once and had to disconnect the battery to get the fuel pump to stop until I got the relay replaced.
Also sounds like way to much fuel pressure. I bought a fuel injection test kit last week and checked mine. Turn the key on and off a couple of times and then on again and leave on,Thanks to fefarms for that one, my fuel pressure read about 37 PSI. I think book stated should be between 35-45 PSI. Running I had about 33 PSI. Might want to try and check with a pressure gauge setup to verify that 70 PSI.
And now I will turn this over to the engine gurus and I am sure they can help more.
