Hi Guys ! My engine swaping is almost done. Its completely welded and bolted in. What I need help with is the engine wiring. It has none at all. It was a 4 cylinder carb, engine. But now its a 5.8 EFI Ford. I know I can go to the local junk yard and get a wiring harness off of a 5.0/5.8 Ford car or truck. But I read some were, that a person does not need the complete harness. Like makeup a stand alone harness. That would be great, maybe a lot less wires and stuff. But what wires and stuff can be left off of the Ford harness. And still work. Is there a website that goes into converting the harness to a stand alone one. I can read a diagram or blue print and follow directions. Looking at all those wires under the hood of a junk ford. It must be a easier and better way. Besides one that looks better. I'll be grateful for and ideas or help you may offer. Thanks !!!
seems like it would be easier to get a harness from the junk yard and strip it down to just what you need, then building a new one. the Haynes books have wiring diagrams in the back of them, you could try that, if you want to make one.
I'm working on the same thing right now. I got a harness out of a 87 van and striped down. It looks like the main stuff is on the engine, and parts of the next one that cover odds and ends and connect the computer. I'd try to make a layout of it for you but I dont' have mine woking yet. For some reason I dont' have fire from the coil. If anyone has a diagram they could post or email that would be great. Maybe we can come up with a stand alone harness for the engine. Just need: start, and run.
Ford Racing makes a stand alone computer and harness for the V8 engines. Its two components and each is about $200. You can purchase either the computer or the wiring harness, they fit together with factory setups. This is the EEC IV.
