Can you recommend a code scanner?

I have a 1999 Ford Explorer and 1998 Ford Expedition can someone recommend a decent code scanner that won't break the bank.

Thanks,
John

Harbor Freight has one for $39. It will reset the CEL. Seems to work fine, at least it has for me.

Autozone sells a number of good code scanners for OBD 2 equipped vehicles. The one I got cost $150. It has a digital readout, some output test capabilities, and of course allows you to clear codes. Well worth it to me, because I hate the kind that flashes the check engine light so you can count the flashes, then have to look it up in the book.
Mine, you just plug in, hit the "READ CODES" button, and the codes are displayed on the digital readout. I love simplicity!!

I'm a tech for a living and I got the same $150 unit from the zone and use it all the time because it is very easy to use and it sure beats pulling the bear out of the back of the shop lol.

I learned (after I bought my Innova code reader from Checker Auto on sale for $99) that there is a difference between a "code reader" and a "scanner". I like my reader, but a scanner would be more useful, (and a lot more expensive).

My neighbor found, on the internet, a site that sells a reader in kit form (or complete) that you can hook up to a laptop if you have one. He really likes it and I think it's a little more capable than my reader. As I recall the complete reader was about $80 and the kit is about $60. You can see it at www.obddiagnostics.com
