I got a 75 f-250 with an inop Dodge AM radio in it. I would like to replace it with a Ford OEM AM/FM. Can I take a 2 shaft radio out of just about any Ford car/truck from the 70s or early 80s?
The Dodge I got is quite a bit too wide so the guy who put it in didn't use the face plate with it. It took some doing to get it in or out of the hole.
Thanks for the tip. Looks like you are right on the **** positon. Unfortunately that will make it a lot harder to find. Not sure how common FM was in those trucks.
I suppose I might be able to modify the bracket to make one work if I found one in a car.
I know you want OEM, so check out ebay. Also, if you want a new one to fit, check out Crutchfield.com. They have at least 1, a Sanyo cassette-radio that fits.
I have tried numerous times to make it fit.
It can't be done (by me anyway) because you have to use spacers to make the mount the same on both shafts but when you do this you lose the threaded shaft to attach to.
I would go aftermarket.
Pioneer still makes a 2 **** AM/FM Cassette
Several companies even make a stock appearing shaft style radio that controls a cd changer...
But I just went with a normal pioneer cd player. Sounds much better than the old one, but did require some cutting of the dash. If it's done carefully, it will still look good.
