I have an 88 ranger std cab 2.0L , My question is if a 2.3 head will bolt onto my block. THe reason for this question is the fact that I need to rebuild my carb and I think I have a hyd lifter(s) going out on me. I like ti idea of have a roller rocker head. I think I read where the head will interchange but am not sure.
dont know if this will help but on my 88 2.0 i used a 2.3 block when my fuel pump went bad and shot fuel on to crank and number one piston , ruined the 2.0 block,,, a young boy was putting in a 302 in his ranger so i got his 2.3 fuel injected motor wiring and all ,, i thought i would replace the 2.0 carberated with 2.3 efi,,,when i had both motors out and was looking at them they looked the same when fuel injection manifold was removed from 2.3 block,,the efi harness and hook up got too complicated so i checked with a few machnics and junk yards and found out the 2.0 and the 2.3 heads are identical,,so i put the 2.0 intake manifold on the 2.3 used 2.0 gaskets for intake and exhaust gaskets was same for both blocks, what i had was a 2.3 with a 2.0 intake manifold with carb,,, the only real mod i had to do was the 2.3 doesnt have a manual fuel pump so a universal electric fuel pump was installed,, which after finding out the manual pump on the 2.0 could go bad and shoot gas into motor and you not know it till motor is shot,,, now the spark plugs are diffrent too but jsut have to remember to ask for 2.3 instead of 2.0,,, engine worked for me just fine,,, hope this helps
