I posted on another forum my vin # for a van that I ordered and should be in next week.(1FDSE35P35HA30518).Oasis says it was built on 9/24/04 and on 10/6/04 there was body damage to right front fender in transit repaired at Peters body shop. Now for my question it says right front fender but how do I know that it was just the fender and nothing else? Do they have to fix and paint exactly to factory specs.I am going to be picking this van up next week hopefully and when I go there to get it ,I am gonna look it over very good and if I dont like what I see they can stick it where the sun don't shine Any help would be greatly appreiciated. Also does the dealer have to tell me about this before selling it to me.Thanks
I would think your dealer should tell you about this if they don't that alone would be enough for me to walk away. IMO nothing is as good as your factory paint and I would not buy a new car that had to have body work done. just my $.02
Yeah, I wouldn't buy it. If I am paying for a brand new car/truck/van then that is what I want. Not something that has been wrecked and repainted. Think about when you go to resell it and someone wants to know if iti has been wrecked or not. You will have to say yes and this deters buyers. . .
Have the dealership order you another one or buy one that is already built as close to the one that is wrecked. Good luck.
First off, I'm amazed you were even able to find out about this. The dealer certainly wouldn't have been told, at least from my experience. Before you sign anything, the dealer should let you take it to an independent body shop and have them look it over for you. Find a shop with an excellent reputation, one that specializes in top-quality restoration work. You may have to pay them something for their time, but it would be worth your while.
This is interesting. The only reason the accident shows up on OASIS is they filed a WARRANTY CLAIM to pay for the repair. Which means someone had to report the vehicle as sold, and your warranty started October 12th. So, let's say you decide to take delivery of this truck on, oh I don't know, say December 1st. Then, 2 years and 11 months down the road the tranny goes, and guess what: that truck is out of warranty, because you're in November, and the warranty expired back on October 11th.
I am concernd that my new truck might have been repaired for a minor dent or major paint scratch (noticed a spot when waxing). How do you look up a vehicle on OASIS? Also, is a dealer required to tell you if a new vehicle you are purchasing has been damaged and repaired?
I don't know if the dealer is required to tell you nationally. I do know in MD the dealers are required to tell you of any repairs above a specific dollar amount, either $250 or $500 I can't remember which.
I do know when I bought my "new" 01 Crown Vic PI that was refused by the police dept because of damage in transit the dealer had to inform me that there was a $600 repair to the roof. The repair looked as good as from the factory and I wasn't complaining about getting a Police Interceptor with 11 miles on the odomiter for several thousand off.

OASIS is something Ford dealers have for vehicle history. It's not available to the public, and I've read on other forums where dealers would post total OASIS reports on people's vehicles would get the smackdown from Dearborn. "I read about that on the internet so it must be true"
Chuck - it could be just so happened it's not been repaired but just was not painted right at the factory, or had a run and was touched up before shipment.
Jeff: Repairing as warranty for a vehicle that's not even delivered yet - that is sleazy! I'll leave it up to the OP to name the dealer but that's not one I'd like to see patronized myself. Myself - I'd not walk - RUN - from that deal!
