dizzy cap:hole

so somehow one of the tabs for the dist. cap broke off and left a hole about a 1/4" around...could this contribute to it running rough? ('69 f100 360)

the engine was acting like it running out of gas...its a dumb question now that i think about it. thanks for your confirmation fellas. you guys have any jimmy-rig ideas so i can get home smoothly? a few wraps of electrical tape is all i can think up.

Many times the hole is the start of a crack also. Cracks will hold enuf moisture to short out the spark to ground. Once that arc track is established the dist cap is toast and no amount of tape or sealant will help.

I guess it's not so easy to find a cap and rotor at the local parts store any more? Last ones I bought were for my '79 F350.

most every parts store i've gone to has thr cap, rotor, points and condenser in stock, i am just out of cash until the 15th. anyways, i found my spare dist., i had it wrapped in a t-shirt, in a bucket. so i pulled it out and the dist. fell out of the shirt, hit the concrete, and the extra (brand new) cap broke. thought you guys might need a laugh at my expense.

Been there and done that. That one odd bolt/screw that you don't have a spare for will always roll the farthest from you, into an inaccessible place, when you drop it on the floor. Guaranteed.

just so you know

my mom decided she could spot me the $5.33 for a new cap. put it in, checked the points gap and timing, and its back to running great!
