1996 check engine light

1996 check engine light
The check engine light in my 2.3L blinks once and then stays on. I have a codec reader. Can anyone tell me where i can find a list of the codec's and how to hook it up so i can get this fixed?

I am not sure what a codec reader is. Is it OBD-II compatible? The data link connector is at the bottom of the instrument panel below the steering wheel. If you can pull the DTC, I can tell you what it is. I have a 1996 Ford Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis Manual. Will be glad to help if you can provide more info.

DTC P1131 is for the upstream HO2S not switching.This DTC indicates the air/fuel ratio is correcting for an overly lean condition. The HO2S is less than 0.45 volt. I would check for of the obvious thinggs that can make your engine go lean ( vacuum leaks, low fuel pressure,stuck open EGR valve, etc.). I f you find a cause for a lean condition repair it and that should cure your problem. If you dont find a cause for lean condition, the diagnosis gets more complex. Do you have access to scan tool? How many miles are on this truck? It may just be a bad O2 sensor. Check for O2 contamination. If things like coolant or silcone ever get to an O2 sensor it will become contaminated and stop working correctly. Let me know if any of this helps.
