86 f150 gas problems help please

86 150 302 truck used to run decent for a while then die and restart when cool, now it will not start unless I spray carb cleaner it the intake,I am only getting 5-10 pounds of fuel pressure on injecter rail valve, both fuel pumps sound like they are running, one is in the tank and one on frame rail, changed fuel filter,I am getting gas to the resivor where the filter is cartride type, but nothing out of it and nothing on either side of the frame mount pump upstream,I am thinking it one of the fuel pumps or the pressure regulator mounted on the injector rail, any and all advise would be appricated,I used to hate working on cars and trucks, but this old ford teaching me patience, and I am kinda taking a liken to trying to fix these things, thanks in advance

Sounds like you have a vaccum leak someplace near the fuel regulator, or possible fuel regulator gone south for the winter, what codes are you getting, KOEO?

Have you changed the fuel filter itself? This is the cheapest of all the potential parts, and one that people often over-look. Change it first, and then see if it starts and runs normally. The frame mount pump is likely the next in line, as it's easier to change than the in-tank pump. 5-7 lbs seems a bit low for injection.

He said he changed the fuel filter already and if there is no change between tanks, it sounds like the in tank pumps are working but the high pressure pump on the rail is not working.

I have not done it myself but I read here somewhere that if you pull the vacuum line off the regulator on the rail, when bad they often spit fuel out the vacuum nipple when bad. If that checks good, I would change the high pressure pump on the frame rail.

Good Luck,

Lee
