Torque Converter

Can anyone tell me what the symptoms of a bad torque converter is? How can a person know that the t.c. is bad???

This one has a whine to it and when driving the truck acts like it is working off a teeth drive and keeps skipping a teeth. It is a hard catch and loose type thing if that makes any sense at all??

Well unles you have lost your driveshaft by now, it might be wise to have it check along with the rear axle if the sound is that loud. Normally IF the Torque convertor is going out, it will be slow going at startup, engine races along an your still moving but at a much slower pace, sometimes they leak badly (front seal, high pressure forces fluid out) or loosen up or burning smell, check fluid for brown bubbles or dark burned smell/color. whineing sound could be bands needing adjustment/repair, low fluid, check after warm up, shift in all gears, stay in place, then recheck while in park on level surface ground.

A transmission shop would be the next stop ....unless you want to be walking.

the problem is not in the rear end it is in the tranny. the whining and the chattering is coming from the tranny. strange thing is when i put this tranny in i took one out just like it with the same symptoms but i used the same converter. the whine was not present at first, after about 7 miles it began and then is also started slipping and not shifting gears correctly. the slipping going to o/d is why i changed the trans in the first place.

sounds like you smoked your AOD by not having the TV cable adjusted probably. Kudos.

Yea but what about both AODs with the same issue. I know atleast one of the two, the one I have in now, was good when last used in April. Also, I did adjust the rod prior to driving it after replacing the transmission just as the book says to do.
