The weather strips at the bottom of the glass (the scrubbers where the glass goes into the door) are cracked and brittle on both doors and the tailgate. Can they all be replaced, both inside and outside, WITHOUT removing the glass?
The tailgate is fairly easy, two screws on each end hold the outer belt piece in and the big corner seals move out of the way to get to the clips for the inner. Took me about 1/2 hours to change. Do it before your back glass gets too scratched up!
I bought mine from JCWhitney. A certain graveyard has them too for a few bucks cheaper but unless their parts pullers have been replaced I wouldn't take my chances with them
OK, you convinced me. A new set is on the way and will be delivered on the 11th. With shipping, the set for both doors and the tailgate cost about 100.
The door panels have to come off to do the side windows, but its a good time to clean the dust out and replace all the plastic clips that hold the door panel on. I got tired of mine rattling with every bump
Agree with you on that. I didn't realize until recently that Autozone sold the replacement clips. I finally bought some and fixed all of the broken ones and what a difference that it made. Anyway, the new weather stripping is scheduled to arrive tomorrow and I can't wait to install it and see what a difference that IT makes with respect to rattling, etc. Mine was Las vegas kept so one can imagine how cooked the rubber is.
People who have bought the replacements for the driver and passenger doors, have you had any problems with them? I bought the replacement set from jeffs bronco graveyard and everytime I close my drivers side door the inside sweep(weather stripping) pops up. It seems the ford originals had a better clip to hold them in secure. Also when replacing both sides when I put the door panel back on the inside ones kept popping off before the panel was in place, I had the panel off quite a bit with the originals on and this never happened. Any one else have similiar problems or is it just my usual crappy luck?
Tom, let me know how that goes, the Arizona sun has cooked mine also and I need to replace mine, the dealership was too expensive so let me know how the replacements go.
Well, it arrived today, well packed from the bronco graveyard. Priobably won't have time to install it for a few days but will give the report when all is finished.
I need to replace the weather srtipping on a 96 rig- I see Jeff Bronco Graveyard lists parts for up to 91 bronco- this should make no difference for weather stripping for a 96 - right?
Can anyone comment on the quality of the Door Weatherstrip Kit (includes the door seal, inner and outer belt-line seals, and the complete glass channel pieces) for BOTH doors that J C Whitney has for sale? (I believe they are made by 'Precision'.)
Also, is there a preferred adheasive for attaching the 'glue-on' door seals?
Ok, so I need the scrubbers/sweepers- the bottom portion of the window sealer and tailgate seal ( where the window rolls down into) I don t need the upper (when window is rolled up seal) just the lower portion.
So, is this considered weatherstripping and do I need to order the entire package or is what I am asking for known by a specific name? I've heard belt, seals, straight lines? I just need to replace that old, cracked, dry botton portion for tailgate and windows?
Tom, I know youordered something- did it work out? And if so, what exactly did you get?
